Reviewing the 2023 Penn State Football Quarterback Room

QB3: Freshman – Jaxon Smolik

Jaxon Smolik has just recently arrived on campus, which is a huge plus for the True Freshman 3-star recruit out of Van Meter, Iowa. A onetime Tulane Green Wave commit, Jaxon has a lot to learn throughout winter workouts and spring ball. The good thing for him is both Allar and Pribula just went through this last season. Their knowledge and being able to give him advice will be very helpful. In a recent On3 article Allar said “Jaxon has done a great job so far. He’s learning it. But we’re trying to help him as much as we can, because we know what the adjustment is like.” It’s great to see Allar and Pribula take Smolik under their wing and help him adjust. I think that speaks to how close this room is, and how badly they all want to be successful. Although I don’t expect him to burn his redshirt this season, we should definitely see him in action in the Blue White game this season. Injuries can happen at any time, but the key is having the next man up be prepared.
