Penn State Football will look to finish the 2023 recruiting cycle strong on Wednesday

Wednesday is National Signing Day for the 2023 cycle and Penn State Football could be in line for a key addition.

The Nittany Lions signed 22 of their 23 commits back during the early signing period in December. The lone commit that did not sign, Conrad Hussey, later signed with Florida State.

After that, the focus turned to the transfer portal, where Penn State picked up four impact players for the 2023 season. At the same time, the Nittany Lions added to their 2024 and 2025 recruiting classes.

But now, the attention will turn back to the 2023 class for the last time.

The Nittany Lions have been rather drama free the past few National Signing Days, with them doing most of the heavy lifting early in the cycle and then signing all of their commits during the early signing period.

That changed last year when Penn State swooped in at the last minute and landed 3-star OL Vega Ioane over Washington on National Signing Day.

It looks like Penn State could be poised for a repeat of last year’s NSD with 4-star OT Chimdy Onoh set to announce his commitment on Wednesday.

A one-time Old Dominion commit, Onoh decommitted back in December when he started to receive some Power 5 interest. Three days after he stepped back from his commitment, the Nittany Lions offered the Maryland product.

Penn State was one of three teams to receive an official visit from Onoh in January. The other two were Michigan State and Ole Miss.

While those two schools have strong NIL pull, the Nittany Lions have the advantage when it comes to location and play on the field. Penn State’s offensive line play improved significantly under Phil Trautwein in 2022 and that has led to a step up in offensive line recruiting.

Listed at 6-foot-5 and 270 pounds, Onoh has been quite the late riser. In 247 Sports’ last rankings update, Onoh moved all the way up to the No. 149 player in the country after being ranked No. 645 in December.

The 4-star would be a great last addition to what already is the No. 14 recruiting class in the nation in the 2023 cycle.
