Penn State Football: 3 Roster Weaknesses facing James Franklin

Penn State Football is in a great situation when it comes to RB1 and RB2. Nicholas Singleton and Kaytron Allen will both head into 2023 with a full season under their belts. The duo forms one of the best Running Back Tandems, maybe in Penn State history. The two-headed monster combined for over 2,000 all-purpose yards and 24 touchdowns.
The problem lies with what is behind Singleton and Allen. We all love Tank Smith, but is he the Running Back that can step up if either Singleton or Allen go down? Penn State is bringing in two freshman at the position. The problem is neither is an early enrollee and will not be on campus for Spring practices. In addition, freshman London Montgomery is expected to redshirt after suffering an ACL tear his senior season.
Penn State Football could really use a Running Back via the transfer portal. That is going to be a really tough sell, with Singleton and Allen now only being sophomores. In this age of the transfer portal there’s not many recruits out there looking for a third-string opportunity.
