Three wide receivers still available for Penn State Football to target in the portal
1. Dante Cephas (Kent State)
When Kent State wide receiver Dante Cephas entered the portal back in December, he was seen as one of the top transfer options of any position in the entire country.
In 28 career games at Kent State, Cephas caught 145 passes for 2,139 yards and 12 touchdowns. With him being from the Pittsburgh area, many thought the Nittany Lions had a good shot to land him.
But here we are in the middle of January and he’s still out there.
On College Gameday before the Rose Bowl, Pete Thamel of ESPN said signs were pointing towards Cephas landing at Pitt, not Penn State. But again, here we are two weeks later, and Cephas is still uncommitted.
Some of the confusion was cleared up by Tyler Calvaruso on a recent episode of the Lions247 podcast. Calvaruso noted that it was likely Cephas will return to Kent State for the spring semester and then reenter the portal after graduating.
It is easier for grad transfers to be admitted to a new school than someone still in the middle of getting their degree.
So, while Penn State will have to wait, the Nittany Lions still have a shot with arguably the best wide receiver in the portal.
