Experts think Penn State Football is primed for big things in 2023
Penn State football will head into the 2023 season with high expectations
The 2022-23 college football season is over, meaning it’s officially time for Penn State football to start looking at the 2023 season.
The Nittany Lions finished this past season 11-2 with a Rose Bowl win. It was a monumental season for Penn State after going 11-11 the two seasons prior.
It looks as though the strong finish to this season will result in a lot of hype for the Nittany Lions heading into 2023.
Fan Duel Sportsbook gives Penn State football the tenth best odds to win the national championship next season. The odds are at +2000. While this is promising, two division rivals, Michigan and Ohio State, have better odds than the Nittany Lions. The Buckeyes have the third best odds while the Wolverines are fourth on the list.
There are plenty of reasons to be high on the Nittany Lions in 2023.
The star running back duo of Nick Singleton and Kaytron Allen will return, along with four starters from an improved offensive line group. Former 5-star recruit Drew Allar is also primed to take over at quarterback for the departing Sean Clifford.
On defense, the Nittany Lions return their top three edge rushers in Adisa Isaac, Chop Robinson and Dani Dennis-Sutton. Breakout linebacker Abdul Carter will be back for his sophomore season and there’s a chance veteran Curtis Jacobs returns to the linebacker room. Junior cornerback Kalen King will highlight what expects to be another talented secondary.
The 2023 squad may be James Franklin’s best shot to reach the College Football Playoff since his 2017 team. That group came up short, but the 2023 team may be better on the offensive line and on defense.
Look for the Nittany Lions to continue to garner hype as this offseason moves on, especially if they continue to improve through the transfer portal.
