1. QB Drew Allar

In game reps for a quarterback are important but being around his coaches and practicing with the first team is as well.

Drew Allar will be Penn State’s quarterback in 2023, the transfer of Christian Veilleux seemingly confirms that. The former 5-star recruit saw a lot of action in 2022. Maybe it wasn’t as much as some fans wanted, but Allar was above the norm in terms of playing time for true freshmen quarterbacks.

At the end of the day, Allar threw 59 passes during game action this season. He had glimpses of excellence during those reps but looked like a true freshman at other times.

While Sean Clifford will get the majority of reps with the first team in order to properly prepare for the Rose Bowl, Allar should see more time with the starting group. Clifford, a six-year veteran, won’t need too many reps to prepare for this game.

The staff will give Allar plenty of snaps in these practices and will likely increase his workload gradually to properly prepare him for the starting job.
