Look at what we have here!
The Terrapins started the 2022-2023 season off strong by dominating a tri-dual against Bloomsburg, Duke, and American in early November. The combined 103-16 beat down was just a sign of things to come for Maryland, because make no mistake about it, Dan, Maryland Terrapins wrestling is BACK!
The Terps hit the road on November 18th to take on a No. 16 ranked Pittsburgh squad which normally would have been a one-sided laugher. But not this season.
Maryland, aided by a pin from Braxton Brown to start off the dual, went on to win five of the matches and narrowly edged out the Panthers 18-16 for their first win against a ranked opponent since 2013.
The Terrapins then took 23 days off before another road tilt against Navy on December 11th. Maryland may have had a little rust on their fender as they squeaked by the Midshipmen 18-15 but a win is a win when you’ve been the living, breathing doormat of the Big Ten for many years.
What Alex Clemsen has built in College Park can no longer go unnoticed. The Terrapins now have a perfect 5-0 record on the season, they boast a whopping seven ranked grapplers, and they are ranked in the top 25 in the latest InterMat dual rankings for the first time in who knows how long.
Next up for Maryland is a road trip to Chattanooga, Tennessee on January 1st and 2nd for the 2023 Southern Scuffle.
