807. . . Previous: 9th. Fighting Illini . 11. team

Dual Rank: 27
Record: 2-2
Ranked Wrestlers: 4

165 No. 15 Danny Braunagel
174 No. 10 Edmond Ruth
197 No. 14 Zac Braunagel

The Fighting Illini have had a bit of a rocky start to the 2022-2023 season as they’ve split each of their first four duals.

Illinois downed Buffalo (28-9) to start the season, however they dropped their next dual against NC State (27-12) as part of a tri-dual in Albany, New York.

Then in another scheduled tri-dual on December 3rd, the Illini smashed Chattanooga (32-9), and as they did in the prior tri-dual, dropped the night cap against Pitt (30-6). Look, I understand losing a dual against NC State as they are generally a top 10 team in the nation. But to get completely man handled by a barely top 25 Pitt team is not what you would normally expect from an Illinois wrestling program.

And the sledding does not get any easier for Illinois with the Midlands Championships coming up and with their first two Big Ten duals against Iowa and Wisconsin.

Woof.

Up next for Illinois are the Midlands Championships on December 29th and 30th in Hoffman Estates.
