Penn State Football Recruiting: Here’s what’s left to do in the 2023 class
3. Consider adding a second running back
This is something that may be a luxury over necessity if Keyvone Lee returns to the Nittany Lions in 2023.
We know Nicholas Singleton and Kaytron Allen are really, really good and deserve all of the meaningful snaps. With that said, depth is important and trying to go a full season with two scholarship running backs is unrealistic.
Penn State has a running back commit in the 2023 class in London Montgomery, but he’s coming off a serious knee injury and may not be ready for the start of the season. If Lee returns, the Nittany Lions will have a senior as their No. 3 running back and depth concerns are decreased greatly.
The problem is, it’s still not clear if Lee will return.
The Nittany Lions have a few 2023 running back options still on the board. One is 3-star Cameron Wallace from Georgia. Wallace took a visit to Penn State back at the beginning of the month. He has also visited Georgia Tech this month.
The Nittany Lions do not need to land another running back by next week’s early signing day. They can wait and see what happens with Lee and go after the best option remaining after the early signing period passes.
