Could this new transfer portal entry be headed to Penn State Football?

Penn State Football continues to look for offensive weapons to put around Drew Allar

Penn State Football can add another name to the transfer target board with Kaden Prather entering the portal on Monday.

The West Virginia wide receiver announced his intentions to enter the portal on Twitter on Monday morning.

Prather is a familiar name for most Penn State fans, because the former 4-star recruit was a priority target for the Nittany Lions during the 2021 cycle. It was a surprise to many when Prather picked West Virginia over Penn State.

As mentioned before with Dont’e Thornton and others, Penn State likes to target players in the portal that it has a prior relationship with. Prather is definitely in that category.

Prather will enter the portal with two years of eligibility remaining after burning his redshirt in 2021. While he caught 12 passes that season, this season was a breakout one for the Maryland native. He caught 52 passes for 501 yards and three touchdowns. His 52 catches would have led the Nittany Lions this season.

Prather checks a lot of boxes for Penn State Football. He plays a position the Nittany Lions need depth at, he has multiple years of eligibility remaining, he has a prior relationship with the staff, and he is from the region.

Current players and even some of their parents, have started to recruit Prather to Penn State. One of the parents doing some recruiting is Zakee Wheatley, father of safety Zakee Wheatley.

Listed at 6-foot-4, Prather also has the size that Penn State’s wide receiver group currently lacks. Right now, the tallest contributing wide receiver expected back next season is KeAndre Lambert-Smith, who is listed at 6-foot-1.

The Nittany Lions continue to go after Thornton and Kent State transfer Dante Cephas at the receiver position. It’s safe to assume that Prather will now be in the discussion with those two.

Landing two of three from this group would be a major home run for the Penn State Football staff.

There’s a lot adding up here for Prather to eventually end up at Penn State, but in the wild world that is the transfer portal, nothing is a guarantee.
