Penn State Football is in the middle of the three busiest weeks of roster construction college football has to offer. Deion Sanders and Colorado will have an impact.

December is full of action for college football rosters. First, you have The Transfer Portal, which opened on December 5th. Then, Early Signing Day for the Penn State Football 2023 recruiting class begins on December 21st. It is a whirlwind of activity for three weeks that can make or break your football program.

This December has an extra wrench thrown in that was unexpected and may have ramifications for Penn State Football. That wrench is named Deion Sanders. Coach Prime accepted an offer to be the next Head Coach at the University of Colorado. He promptly told the current players that he is bringing in his own guys and that they should explore the Transfer Portal.

Coach Sanders is going to use the Transfer Portal to its full extent and rebuild the Colorado Football program as quickly as possible. This means more competition in the transfer portal for the top talent available. WR Jimmy Horn Jr., DL Elijah Jeudy, and WR Dorian Singer all have been offered by both Penn State and Colorado.

In addition to the Transfer Portal Colorado has sent over 100 offers to the class of 2023 recruits. Undoubtedly, with Penn States’ high ranking, some of its recruits will receive an offer from Coach Prime.

Another aspect of Coach Prime getting a Power Five Head Coaching Position is the allure for current players on the Penn State roster to join him at Colorado. There has been no evidence that any players are jumping at the idea of leaving Penn State for Colorado, but would it honestly surprise anyone?

College football is in a brand new era of player empowerment, which I am a huge fan of. NIL and the Transfer Portal are great for college athletes. Hopefully, James Franklin and Penn State Football can keep Coach Prime at bay and continue to build this program.
