1. Dont’e Thornton

A one-time Penn State commit, Oregon wide receiver Dont’e Thornton announced his intentions to enter the portal.

The 6-foot-5 wide out is originally from Baltimore and could possibly be looking to come back to the East Coast. In two seasons with the Ducks, Thornton caught 26 passes for 541 yards and three touchdowns.

Considering he only played in four games in 2021, Thornton does technically have three years of eligibility remaining. When Penn State does look to the portal, guys with multiple years of eligibility do seem to be the high priorities. Chop Robinson, Jordan Stout, Johnny Dixon and Hunter Nourzad are examples of this.

Another factor the Penn State staff looks for when it comes to portal targets is familiarity. In the cases of Robinson, Dixon, Derrick Tangelo and John Lovett, Penn State was involved in their original recruitments out of high school.

It’s hard to be more familiar with a transfer target than Penn State is with Thornton, considering he was once committed to the Nittany Lions.
