14-10

14. Northwestern (1-10, 1-7) Last week: 14

Northwestern fell to 1-10 on the season after losing to Purdue 17-9. It was a strong showing from the Wildcats defense as they tried to play spoiler, but it wasn’t enough. The score did get as close as 14-9 at one point, but Northwestern just didn’t have enough firepower to get over the hump. It’s been a tough season for Northwestern, but the end is near.

13. Rutgers (4-7, 1-7) Last week: 11

It was ugly for Rutgers in all phases of the game on Saturday against Penn State Football as the Knights lost 55-10. Rutgers did hold a 10-7 lead in the first quarter, but Penn State went on to score 48 unanswered points. The offense under young quarterback Gavin Wimsatt was not great as he went 10-29 for 122 yards, one touchdown and an interception. The Knights also netted just 32 rushing yards. With just four wins, Rutgers will miss a bowl, which is disappointing for a program trying to take a step forward.

12. Nebraska (3-8, 2-6) Last week: 12

Another almost win for Nebraska as it let Wisconsin come back to win 15-14. The Cornhuskers held a 14-3 lead but let the Badgers score 12 unanswered points in the fourth quarter. It was another rough day for Nebraska’s offense as it only gained 171 total yards and 14 points throughout the game. Only one more game until Nebraska can go forward with its coaching search and try to rebuild.

11. Indiana (4-7, 2-6) Last week: 13

Indiana will not make a bowl, but it did have a memorable win over Michigan State on Saturday, winning 39-31 in double overtime. Indiana managed to score 39 points despite only throwing seven passes and completing just three of them. Running back Shaun Shivers led the way, rushing for 115 yards and two touchdowns. The Hoosiers were down 24-7 in the second quarter but came back to win. Usually, a 3-7 team would just roll over with a deficit like that, but Indiana stayed on task and came back to win.

10. Michigan State (5-6, 3-5) Last week: 8

Michigan State’s loss to Indiana doesn’t make a whole lot of sense. The Spartans outgained the Hoosiers 540-288 and allowed only three pass completions. How they lost this game 39-31 in double overtime just doesn’t add up. It’s been that type of year for Michigan State though. A year after going 11-2, the Spartans will need to upset Penn State at home to just make a bowl game. This is not what anyone expected.
