4. The Portal

This late in a cycle, it may be difficult for Penn State football to find an available wide receiver that it truly likes.

The Nittany Lions should not replace Shakir for the sake of replacing him. If a better or equal prospect isn’t out there, hold onto the scholarship.

The transfer portal is as hot as it’s ever been. A legitimate target or two will eventually emerge from the portal.

Penn State used the portal last offseason to add a wide receiver, adding Mitchell Tinsley. The Nittany Lions may need to go back to the well one more time, with Tinsley departing after the season, and the chance Parker Washington does the same.

It may also be more beneficial for Penn State to go after a veteran player instead of a high school recruit because the Nittany Lions are in win now mode. Drew Allar is going to be the starting quarterback of this team next season, giving the sophomore as many veterans around him as possible will lead to success.

There will always be talent in the transfer portal. Just look at last year, the reigning Biletnikoff winner, Jordan Addison, was in the portal. Receivers will be available, and they’ll be ready to go from day one, unlike the vast majority of the remaining high school targets.
