Penn State football will look at add more wide receivers to its 2023 recruiting class

Penn State football lost a commitment on Sunday night from 4-star wide receiver Ejani Shakir in a somewhat surprising move.

Shakir had been committed to Penn State since May. He was relatively quiet after committing, showing no signs of wavering or reports of visiting other schools.

Regardless of why Shakir left, the Nittany Lions must now replace the hole left in the 2023 recruiting class.

Penn State now has just one wide receiver committed in 4-star Carmelo Taylor from Virginia. The speedy Taylor is a key member of the class and looks like a future impact player.

Having Taylor is great, but wide receiver is a position that it is vital to build depth at. Three or four are usually on the field at one time, and receivers often have other roles such as punter returner and kick coverage. It’s important to have as many talented receivers as possible.

So, now that Penn State football is down to one wide receiver commit, where does it go from here? Here are the options for the Nittany Lions in the wake of Shakir’s departure.
