Cotton Bowl (Brett McMurphy, Action Network HQ)

Brett McMurphy of Action Network HQ dropped his latest bowl predictions on Monday morning, and he has Penn State football facing off against UCF in the Cotton Bowl.

The Cotton Bowl is to be played on Jan. 2 in Dallas, Texas. There are no bowl games on New Year’s Day this year because it falls on NFL Sunday.

The Cotton Bowl was the last New Year’s Six bowl game that Penn State played in. Back in 2019, the Nittany Lions defeated Memphis 53-39 in one of the more entertaining bowl games in recent memory for Penn State.

UCF is having a strong season. The Knights are currently 8-2 and are averaging 35.9 points per game. Mostly a run-first team, UCF runs for 250 yards and nearly three rushing touchdowns per game.

While some Penn State fans may say that UCF’s numbers are inflated because of its competition level, it is worth noting that the Knights have knocked off two ranked teams in Cincinnati and Tulane so far this season.

This is a tough team that is somewhat similar to the Memphis team Penn State faced in 2019. Sean Clifford ended his first year as the starter at Penn State with a win in the Cotton Bowl, could he end his career with one as well?
