For the past several seasons, the Golden Gophers were propped up by one of the all-time collegiate greats in Gable Steveson. But after winning another national title last year and leaving his shoes on the mat, the loss of Steveson leaves a huge hole in the lineup.

One could say Minnesota has some big shoes to fill.

And they may just have the talent to overcome the loss of Gable. Minnesota returns two All-Americans from last season (Patrick McKee and Jake Bergeland) and Brayton Lee should be fully healthy following his freak injury suffered in the dual meet against Ohio State last season.

Couple this trio with the likes of Michael Blockhus, Andrew Sparks, Bailee O’Reilly, Isaiah Salazar, and Michial Foy, and the Golden Gophers have a seasoned and battle tested squad.

Speaking of battle tested, Minnesota hasn’t competed in a single match yet this season, however that will come to an end as they are set to compete in the Bison Open on November 12th.
