The Big Ten Wrestling season is here, and the Penn State Nittany Lions are ready to defend their title.

With the 2022-2023 season drawing ever so close, let’s take a look at how we see the landscape of Big Ten Wrestling as of today.

Some questions Big Ten Wrestling fans may be asking as the season approaches:

-Can anyone dethrone Penn State?
-Will Tom Brands go ballistic during a duel meet and throw a shoe?
-Can Ohio State’s youngsters make any major impacts this year?
-Will Angel Rivera break his own record for the most horrendous calls made in one match?

All are excellent questions.

All rankings listed are as of the latest InterMat rankings.

Here we go!

. . . Terrapins . 14. team. 824

Dual Rank: NR
Record: 3-0
Ranked Wrestlers: 1
197 No. 25 Jaxon Smith

Death, taxes, Penn State taking forever in releasing their annual wrestling schedule, and the Fighting Terrapins bringing up the rear in the Big Ten Wrestling Power Rankings.

But and this is a big “But”, this year’s edition of Maryland wrestling may have enough firepower in their lineup to finally take the stairs and walk out of the basement. And here’s why.

The Terrapins are off to a great start in plowing through Bloomsburg (37-6), Duke (37-0), and American (29-10) this past Saturday in a tri dual in College Park. And the last time Maryland started 3-0 on the season, well you would have to go back to the Fall of 2014 where they started 4-0.

Additionally, Maryland has several high-profile recruits who will hit the mat this season and I’m guessing they will make a huge impact. Between Braxton Brown (125 – Freshman), Ethen Miller (149 – Freshman), Dom Solis (174 – Sophomore), and Jaxon Smith (197 – Freshman) the future looks incredibly bright for Alex Clemsen and the Terrapins.

Next up for Maryland is a road trip to Kansas City to compete in the Tiger Style Invite on November 12th.
