1. 3-star DE Mason Robinson (2023)

Penn State football does not have a commit from Maryland in its 2023 recruiting class.

It’s shocking that the Nittany Lions have struck out in Maryland this cycle, but it’s not over. If the drought is to end in the 2023 cycle, it will likely be because of Mason Robinson.

The 3-star defensive end is currently committed to Northwestern, but the Wildcats are really struggling this season with a 1-8 record. While academics often outweigh football for Northwestern recruits, 1-8 is really bad.

Robinson attends The McDonogh School, the school Penn State has had the most success recruiting in Maryland. Four current members of Penn State’s defense attended the McDonogh School.

The Nittany Lions could use another defensive end in this class and the current options are slim. They may need to flip someone in order to successfully fill the void in the 2023 class.

Going back to one of your best pipelines may be the way to go for Franklin and his staff. It may not be likely that Robinson flips, but with the existing relationship, Penn State should continue to push here.
