Penn State basketball is looking to take another step forward as a program in year two under Micah Shrewsberry.

Th 2022-23 season will officially get underway Monday for Penn State basketball, and expectations are starting to grow for the program.

The Nittany Lions went 14-17 last season and just 7-13 in Big Ten play. Considering it was Micah Shrewsberry’s first season as a head coach, some growing pains were to be expected.

This season is a little different though. Penn State basketball has an intriguing roster that includes veterans in their fourth or fifth seasons, transfers and the highest rated recruiting class in program history.

The situation is very similar to the one currently going on with the football team. Shrewsberry must stay competitive by playing his older players, but also give his youngsters valuable playing time.

The freshmen may be the key to this season though, as Kebba Njie and Demetrius Lilley will be tasked with helping replace John Harrar at the center position.

Before the matchup with Winthrop Monday night, let’s take a look at some reasonable expectations for Penn State basketball in 2022-23.
