Pros

Moving on to Drew Allar would certainly be the best move in order to prepare for 2023 and 2024.

Penn State football should feel good about its chances in those seasons with Allar and the rest of the 2022 recruiting class there for those years, along with the talented 2023 class currently being constructed.

Key veterans like Curtis Jacobs, Olu Fashanu,  Theo Johnson, Parker Washington, KeAndre Lambert-Smith, Adisa Isaac and Keaton Ellis are all possibilities to return in 2023. Kalen King, Zakee Wheatly, Landon Tengwall, Chop Robinson and Harrison Wallace will all be back for at least the 2023 season.

Needless to say, the next two years could be special for Penn State. In order for those seasons to be memorable though, the quarterback needs to be playing at a high level.

The expectations for Allar are incredibly high, but there’s still a lot about him we don’t know. Allar has played in six games this season, attempting 31 passes and completing 18 of them for 209 yards and two touchdowns. These numbers aren’t bad, the problem is, the majority of them came in blowouts against lesser competition.

While Indiana, Maryland, Rutgers and Michigan State aren’t exactly murders row, these teams are still Big Ten teams and Allar would be starting the game from the start, not when the outcome has already been decided.

Seeing how Allar performs in these games will do wonders for James Franklin and Mike Yurcich’s evaluations of their young signal caller. This will give them the entire offseason to work on Allar’s weaknesses and build off of his strengths. It will make the Nittany Lions more prepared heading into 2023. Keep in mind, Penn State starts the 2023 season against West Virginia, not someone like Delaware or Idaho, he needs to be ready to go right away.

Moreover, let’s say Allar plays pretty well down the stretch. His play could sway Washington and Lambert-Smith to come back for one more year. It could also help the Nittany Lions recruit elite wide receivers in the 2023 class, the 2024 class and the transfer portal.

Showcasing these wide outs’ future quarterback would not hurt at all, especially if he plays well.
