Penn State Football freshman rushing records

Both Nick Singleton and Kaytron Allen have been sensational so far, and both have opportunities to re-write the Penn State Football history books.

In 2015, Saquon Barkley set school records for both rushing yards and rushing touchdowns by a true freshman. He rushed for seven touchdowns that year, but that has since been topped as Noah Cain rushed for eight as a true freshman in 2019.

Through five games, Nick Singleton has run for five touchdowns and Kaytron Allen has run for three. Singleton is obviously in a better position to break Cain’s record than Allen is, but Allen still has a realistic shot at also tying or surpassing eight touchdowns on the ground. In fact, that was one of my bold predictions for the offense for the remainder of the season.

Barkley’s freshman rushing record of 1,076 yards still stands, but is in jeopardy of being broken by Nick Singleton. He has rushed for 463 yards to this point, and with more than half the season remaining, Singleton is well on his way to breaking Barkley’s seven-year-old record.

If he does, he would also be Penn State’s first 1,000-yard rusher since Miles Sanders rushed for 1,274 back in 2018.
