Four recruits committed elsewhere that Penn State Football may try to flip
DE Mason Robinson
Penn State was heavy on 3-star defensive end Mason Robinson before his commitment to Northwestern.
The Nittany Lions looked like the favorite for a while due to their relationship with Robinson’s school, the McDonogh School. Four current members of Penn State’s defense are graduates of the McDonogh School.
When a highly touted recruit commits to Northwestern, football usually isn’t the main reason why. Academics play a big role in Northwestern’s recruiting pitch, and for good reason.
That means that Robinson won’t be easily swayed just because Northwestern is 1-5 and looks poised to lose ten games this season. Regardless of record, Pat Fitzgerlad also seems to have the best job security in the country, so it’s unlikely that there’s a coaching change either.
If Penn State wants to get back into with Robinson, it’ll have to be because of the fellow McDonogh players. Freshman Dani Dennis-Sutton currently leads the Nittany Lions with three sacks.
Penn State’s staff can show Robinson the early success his old teammate is having and try to make it a massive selling point to him. With not many edge rushers left on the board, the Nittany Lions may have to circle back to Robinson and make this pitch to try to make it work.
