WR Dont’e Thorton

Moving on to the 2021 class, we start with wide receiver Dont’e Thorton.

Thorton committed to Penn State back in February of 2019. He was one of the first members of the 2021 class and was the highest ranked commit in the class as a high 4-star.

Thorton’s commitment did not last that long as he reopened things in August of 2019. Despite decommitting, Thorton still visited Penn State multiple times. There was a thought that he would end up back in the class.

By the next October though, Thorton was committed to Oregon, a school he regularly called his dream school.

Thorton saw limited action as a true freshman last but made the most of those opportunities. In four games, he caught nine passes for 175 yards and two touchdowns. This season, Thorton has seven catches for 122 yards.

Thorton hasn’t emerged as a No. 1 receiver yet, but he’s shown plenty of promise. Penn State is always looking for weapons to add to its offense and losing Thorton was a tough blow. If guys like Harrison Wallace and Omari Evans become stars, Pen State won’t have any regrets over Thorton.
