Penn State Football: biggest surprises from the first five games of the 2022 season
By Nick Kreiser
Barney Amor
Losing Jordan Stout’s punting abilities seemed like it would be a huge loss for the special teams unit, but after earning a scholarship during training camp, Barney Amor has stepped up and been outstanding.
He is second in the Big Ten in punts downed inside the 20: with 14 so far through the first five weeks. What’s even more impressive is that he only has one touchback on the season, and it was only a touchback because of a mishap by the punt coverage unit, not because Amor didn’t strike the ball well.
So in theory, you could chalk Barney Amor up as having zero touchbacks in his 23 attempts so far.
He is also tied for fourth in the conference in fair catches.
As is always the case, you hope you don’t have to see your punter trot out there very often, but it’s got to feel for Penn State Football fans to have Barney Amor on their side, as he can help the Nittany Lions tremendously in the field position battle.
