The calendar is about to change to October, meaning the biggest month of the year is here for Penn State football.

Penn State football will play its first of four games in October this Saturday against Northwestern.

The Nittany Lions are currently 4-0 and ranked the No. 11 team in the nation by the AP Poll. Penn State has been getting contributions from all over the roster, leading to the major success the team has been having.

Penn State won impressive road games against Purdue and Auburn in September, but that slate will look like a walk in the park compared to the schedule in October. The Nittany Lions will host Northwestern this weekend before going on bye. After the bye, Penn State has a three-game stretch that includes heading to Michigan and then hosting Minnesota and Ohio State.

This very well could be a career defining month for James Franklin. If Penn State plays well, the Nittany Lions could have a shot at the Big Ten title and the College Football Playoff. Failure could have more fans scratching their heads.

Here’s why October is so important for Penn State football.
