Why Penn State football’s quarterbacks will have a big day on Saturday
3. An Improved Offensive Line
Penn State’s offensive line had been a weakness in years past, but so far so good this year.
Penn State’s quarterbacks were sacked five times against Ohio, Purdue and Auburn combined for just one sack.
This improved play will give Penn State’s quarterbacks more time to connect with those talented receivers. Part of the reason Penn State’s offense struggled down the stretch last year was because Clifford was constantly being pressured and couldn’t wait for a receiver to get open.
Central Michigan’s defense has generated six sacks this season, but three of those came against Bucknell. Thomas Incoom has been a threat for the Chippewas this year with three sacks, but he’ll likely be matched up with Penn State’s talented left tackle Olu Fashanu.
Fashanu has done a fantastic job of protecting both quarterback’s blind side through the first three games of the season.
Penn State football will only go as far as its offensive line takes them in 2022. This unit has shown improvement, especially against a talented front seven from Auburn. This group’s play, along with Central Michigan’s struggles should help Clifford, Allar and the other Penn State quarterbacks have a big day on Saturday.
