OT Drew Shelton

Drew Shelton was the highest rated offensive lineman in Penn State’s loaded 2022 recruiting class.

It hasn’t taken long for Shelton to carve out a role on Penn State’s offensive line, as he is already a reserve at the tackle position. Tackle depth has been a concern for the Nittany Lions, so Shelton already emerging is a big deal.

While it’s unlikely he burns his redshirt, Saturday could be a golden opportunity for him to receive some experience.

Like with linebacker, Penn State needs to protect its starting offensive linemen as much as possible, especially at the tackle position.

Starting left tackle Olu Fashanu has already praised Shelton and has high expectations for him.

If the score gets to the point where the staff is comfortable pulling the starters, and even key reserves like Bryce Effner and Hunter Nourzad, Shelton could enter the game.

This will be the best chance to get him reps before Big Ten play starts next week. While it’s unlikely Shelton’s performance will change the staff’s mind on redshirting him, he could at least show signs of promise for the future.

Penn State will need Shelton in the future, and games like this one will be huge for his development.
