Penn State Football: Game Balls for the Nittany Lions’ win over Auburn
For the first time in over a hundred years, Auburn hosted a Big Ten team. On Saturday, Penn State Football made their way to Auburn to take on the Tigers. Last season, the Nittany Lions would defeat Auburn by a final score of 28-20 in Happy Valley.
The Nittany Lions would go on to destroy Auburn this time around by a final score of 41-12. This is in large part thanks to Penn State’s running game who completely ran all over the Tigers. With that said, we have three game balls to give out, one for each phase of the game.
Offense – Nick Singleton (RB)
On Saturday afternoon, Nick Singleton completely ran all over the Auburn Tigers. Singleton finished the game with 124 yards and two touchdowns. He had a lot of explosive runs yesterday, including one that broke for 54-yards and a touchdown in the early part of the fourth quarter.
In the early part of the third quarter, Sean Clifford would hand the ball off to Nick Singleton where he would have another explosive run, this one for just 53-yards. Three plays later, the freshman sensation would pound it in to make the score 21-6 in favor of Penn State.
Singleton finished the game with an average of 12.4 yards per run. The Penn State Football rushing group is going to continue to look great with the freshmen, Nick Singleton, leading the charge.
Defense – Abdul Carter (LB)
Another true freshman, Abdul Carter would have himself a game on Saturday at Auburn. Carter would finish with the most tackles, with six in the game. He finished tied with Marquis Wilson on total tackles this game. Carter would also pick up a big sack for a loss of about 11 yards towards the end of the third quarter.
Carter also came up with a big, forced fumble at the end of the first half. He made his presence felt all game with big hits, big tackles, and just big plays overall. Abdul Carter is a big reason why the Nittany Lions defense would completely destroy the Auburn Tigers’ offense.
Special Teams – Jake Pinegar (K)
On the special teams’ side of things, the Penn State kicker really showed up and showed out on Saturday. Pinegar would kick five PATs, as well as two field goals. One for 22 yards, and one for 48 yards.
The wildest part about it is he wouldn’t miss any of them. He had a busy day but continued to play as if the game was close and left it all out on the field. Much like on the offensive, and defensive side of things, Jake Pinegar played a big role in the Nittany Lions’ massive statement victory over the Auburn Tigers.
