Penn State Football: Sean Clifford, His Legacy Is On The Line
By Andrew Adair
Sean Clifford is leading the Penn State Football team for his fourth season. Is his legacy on the line against Auburn?
Sean Clifford will finish his career as the best quarterback in Penn State history, statistically. When it is all said and done, Clifford should finish with the most passing yards, passing touchdowns, most completions, and the highest completion percentage. Like I said, statistically, the best Quarterback in Penn State history.
Sean Clifford has had his shares of ups and downs during his career as starting quarterback for Penn State. His first season featured a New Years’ Six Bowl victory and an 11-2 season. Fans tend to remember all the downs. I get it. If you’re the best quarterback Penn State has had, you can’t lose to Illinois at home whether you’re healthy or not.
While Sean Clifford has been quarterback, Penn State has won games against ranked teams such as Wisconsin, Iowa, Michigan, Memphis, and Auburn. I know, I know, Ohio State is not on this list, but who has beat them in the Big Ten?
The 2022 season will also mark the first time since Clifford became the starter that he will have the same offensive coordinator in consecutive years. Clifford is now on his fourth offensive scheme, and in his six years, he has seen Joe Moorhead, Ricky Rahne, and Kirk Ciarrocca come and go. Mike Yurcich represents continuity that has not been a luxury in Sean Clifford’s career.
Sean Clifford’s’ Penn State legacy is on the line against Auburn. Clifford will enter this week’s game against Auburn with the five-star, highly regarded, impressive-looking Drew Allar looking over his shoulder.
