1. Running back

After watching freshman Nick Singleton run for 179 yards and two touchdowns on Saturday, you may find it somewhat puzzling to see this position on this list.

Not only does Penn State have Singleton for at least the next two seasons after this one, they also have fellow freshman Kaytron Allen. In addition to those two is 2023 commit London Montgomery.

Here’s where the problem lies though.

Singleton and Allen’s play may push the older running backs on the roster to look towards the NFL or a transfer. That would leave them and Montgomery as the only three scholarship running backs on the roster.

That doesn’t sound too bad, but Montgomery recently suffered a season-ending injury in high school. The chances of him being ready for anything before Fall camp in 2023 are slim with this being an ACL injury.

The Nittany Lions need to add another running back to the mix to ensure the depth is suffice in 2023 and 2024.

While no name really sticks out right now, Ja’Juan Seider will continue to scan the country to find another back to add to his talented stable. It would be a shock to not see Penn State pick up another running back in this class.
