2. Options seem endless

One of the criticisms with Sean Clifford and the offense last year was that he locked onto Jahan Dotson too much. Dotson still got his because of how talented he is, but defenses definitely planned for it.

Dotson is now gone, and instead Penn State will rely on strength in numbers.

No wide receiver had more than four catches on Saturday for the Nittany Lions. Parker Washington led the way with four catches for 60 yards, while Mitchell Tinsley caught three passes for 27 yards and a touchdown.

Plenty of underclassmen also got time at wide receiver. Omari Evans had a 32-yard touchdown reception and tight end Khalil Dinkins had a 28-yard one. In the end, 17 different players caught a pass against Ohio.

The starting trio at wide receiver of Tinsley, Washington and Keandre Lambert-Smith is strong, but the Nittany Lions have the ability to reach further down the depth chart if needed. Harrison Wallace caught four passes on Saturday and the young wide outs flashed all game.

The tight ends have also looked good, and keep in mind Theo Johnson is yet to play this year. He is a big part of the packages Penn State wants to run offensively.

While no one on this roster may be as talented as Dotson, it’s a whole lot harder for a defense to game plan when they don’t know where the ball is going. The abundance of options at wide receiver and tight end that Penn State has makes them a scary team to face.
