Penn State Football: Five youngsters poised for a big game against Ohio
DE Chop Robinson
It may surprise some to know that Chop Robinson is considered a young player. It may not have seemed that way with the way he played down the stretch in the Purdue game.
A sophomore, Robinson was by far Penn State’s best pass rusher in the fourth quarter last Thursday.
On the box score, Robinson was awarded just one tackle, but he was far more disruptive than that. He should have been awarded a sack on the final play of the game, but Purdue quarterback Aidan O’Connell just threw the ball into the turf, and it was ruled an incomplete pass.
Robinson’s speed and athleticism popped against Purdue, and it looks like the coaching staff took notice as well.
The Nittany Lions are trying to replace the sack and tackle for loss production of Arnold Ebiketie, who was a star for Penn State last year. With his performance last week, Robinson could be the guy who assumes a lot of the production that needs to be replaced.
Robinson is still learning Manny Diaz’s system and his new position with the Nittany Lions, but he’s off to a great start. Don’t be too surprised if Robinson is announced with the starting lineup on Saturday afternoon.
