Penn State Football storyline #4 – the running back rotation

As expected, Nick Singleton and Kaytron Allen have turned heads throughout the offseason, and both are ready to make an immediate impact.

However, they do have some competition in the running back room.

Devyn Ford is entering his fourth year on campus, and after contributing and showing a lot of upside as a true freshman in 2019, has really disappeared and only got 14 carries all of last year.

The more intriguing veteran in the room is Keyvone Lee, who has averaged 4.9 yards per carry in each of his first two seasons and was the Nittany Lions’ leading rusher in 2021. Though he hasn’t really flashed yet, Lee has shown a lot of good things and can be a steady and consistent back that is sure to see a lot of carries, at least early on.

With Singleton and Allen now in the mix, it will be fascinating to watch not only how the touches are divided up in the first couple games, but also how well each one plays and which one(s) emerge as the go-to ball-carriers.
