Key to success on offense #2 – don’t settle for field goals in the redzone

Among the many issues on offense last season, not being able to get seven points in the redzone was one of them. Penn State Football was 99th in the country in 2021 with a 77.5% redzone scoring percentage, which is well below average and needs to be better.

In a game like this, settling for three points in the redzone instead of seven could be enough to allow Purdue to hang around. Though it’s projected to be a close matchup, the Nittany Lions are the far more talented team. The longer they allow the Boilermakers to hang around, the more they believe they can win.

Capitalize with touchdowns in redzone trips, build a solid lead, and then put them away. Take the crowd out of the game early and don’t let Purdue hang around late into the game.
