Running back competition

It has been fascinating to watch the running back room all offseason. After what seemed like a talented and deep unit at this time a year ago, only to disappoint, there has been a lot of turnover throughout the past nine months for Ja’Juan Seider’s squad.

John Lovett moved on to the NFL, Noah Cain transferred home to LSU, and Caziah Holmes just recently to Florida State. The Nittany Lions also welcomed a pair of highly rated recruits at the position: Nick Singleton and Kaytron Allen.

We assumed both would be ready to contribute right away, Singleton with his elite speed and athleticism and Allen with his well-rounded, consistent running style. However, it seems like the two will be doing more than just contribute. They’re ready to make an impact.

Singleton has been impressive since day one, and it seems like Allen is now following suit.

After last season, it will certainly be a welcomed sight for Penn State Football fans to watch running backs that can regularly make defenders miss and break tackles.

Keyvone Lee will certainly play a pivotal role for this unit as well, and likely will start week one, but Nick Singleton and Kaytron Allen will also get plenty of touches early and could potentially both surpass the seasoned Lee by the end of the year.
