Penn State Football: Three takeaways from Drew Allar being named QB2
Improvements
Drew Allar enrolling early back in January was certainly beneficial to his development.
It allowed him to take part in winter workouts and spring camp. While sacrificing the last few months with his high school friends was probably a tough decision, it looks like the right one for Allar’s football future.
From where he started back in the winter months to now, Allar has made strides. He seemed tied with fellow true freshman Beau Pribula for the QB3 spot in the spring, with Veilleux and Clifford ahead of them.
Now, Allar has not only separated himself from Pribula, but he’s also at least put himself on equal footing with Veilleux, who has been in the system a year longer.
This should excite Penn State fans, because it means he’s getting better each day. Now, he has a legitimate chance to see game action if something was to happen to Clifford or the game was already decided. This will only further his development.
Reps are important, whether they come in the fourth quarter of a 56-10 game or during a practice on a Tuesday, they matter. Allar is now in line to receive more reps, which is good for 2023 and beyond.
