Penn State football freshman quarterback Drew Allar may be ready to make an impact sooner than expected.

Penn State head football coach James Franklin turned some heads during his press conference Monday when he announced that Drew Allar would be the backup quarterback for Thursday’s game at Purdue.

While Franklin went on to say that it’s not set in stone and things could change, this is a big step forward for the true freshman signal caller.

Many thought redshirt freshman Christian Veilleux was set to be QB2 after an impressive showing against Rutgers last year when he was called to action after Sean Clifford left with an illness.

Rated as the No.1 quarterback in the 247 Sports rankings for the 2022 recruiting cycle, Allar came to Penn State with a lot of buzz. There’s even more now.

Let’s take a look at what this means for Allar and Penn State football.
