Penn State Football: Predicting the outcome of each game this season
Week 7: Vs Minnesota
Penn State will return home for the annual White Out game after facing Michigan.
This year, the White Out will take place against Minnesota on Oct. 22.
The Golden Gophers had a solid season last year, going 9-4. That record is even more impressive when you realize their star running back Mohamed Ibrahim played only one half of football.
Ibrahim returns in 2022, as does his talented backup Trey Potts. Also returning on offense is sixth-year quarterback Tanner Morgan.
Morgan’s top target, Chris Autman-Bell is also back for another go around. If there is one place this offense lacks some experience, it’s on the offensive line, with three starters from last year gone.
Minnesota’s defense was one of the best in the country last year. The Golden Gophers allowed just 17.3 points per game, which was No. 6 in the nation. That’s good, like really good.
Top tackler Jack Gibbens is no longer there though. Neither is the team’s best corner Coney Durr. Justin Walley does return at corner though, and he had seven pass defends last year. Tyler Nubin, who had three interceptions, is also back.
In order for Penn State to win this one, it needs to dominate the line of scrimmage. Make sure Ibrahim and Potts have nowhere to run and open holes for your own running backs.
Penn State is 4-1 in White Out games since 2016.
Prediction: PSU 27 Minnesota 20
