Penn State Football: Predicting the outcome of each game this season
Week 6: At Michigan
After a bye week, Penn State will head to the Big House for a battle with Michigan.
Michigan is coming off of its first College Football Playoff appearance and first Big Ten title under Jim Harbaugh.
On offense, the Wolverines may actually be better than they were last year.
Both quarterbacks, Cade McNamara and J.J. McCarthy, return. It looks like Michigan will stick with McNamara as the starter and continue the package it has for McCarthy.
Leading rusher Hassan Haskins is gone, but his productive backup Blake Corum is back, as is talented sophomore Donovan Edwards. Additionally, four starting offensive linemen return, and Virginia transfer Olusegun Oluwatimi was brought in to play center.
Where the offense may improve the most is wide receiver. Youngsters like Andrel Anthony and A.J. Henning are a year older, while the injured Ronnie Bell returns to full health. Impact players like Cornelius Johnson and Roman Wilson also return.
Michigan’s dominant defense looks poised for a step back though. The defensive end duo of Aidan Hutchinson and David Ojabo that combined for 25 sacks last year is off to the NFL. Star safety Dax Hill is also now in the NFL. These are not easy players to replace.
Penn State has not had great success at the Big House and this is a tough Michigan team.
Prediction: PSU 21 Michigan 28
