Penn State Football: four bold predictions for the offense in 2022
By Nick Kreiser
Bold prediction #4 – Penn State Football has a first team All-Big Ten offensive lineman
This last one is definitely the boldest of the bunch.
The last first team all-conference offensive lineman from Penn State was John Urschel at guard in 2013.
Likely the best candidate to earn the honors in 2022 would be Juice Scruggs.
As a first-year starter in 2021, Scruggs was the Nittany Lions’ best offensive lineman as their right guard. Now, with a year of experience under his belt and a move to center where he is most comfortable, he is poised for a big season where he can really help this offense.
Let’s also take a look at Scruggs’ competition at center from across the conference. Last year’s first team center–Tyler Linderbaum of Iowa–is off to the NFL. Plus, Doug Kramer (second team coaches poll selection from Illinois), Andrew Vastardis (second team media selection from Michigan), and Cam Jurgens (third team coaches poll selection from Nebraska), are all gone.
The only All-Big Ten center that remains from 2021 is Minnesota’s John Michael Schmitz, who was a second team selection by the coaches and third by the media.
Olu Fashanu and Landon Tengwall are both talented enough to he first teamers at some point in their career, but will they reach that ceiling this season as a pair or young and inexperienced players?
Caedan Wallace will benefit from his experience, but he’s probably a long shot as he is playing out of position.
To be a little more specific, this bold prediction is that one of Penn State’s offensive linemen will be a first team All-Big Ten selection in at least one of the two polls: media and/or coaches.
One thing is for sure, this prediction coming true would be extremely beneficial for the Penn State Football offense. Let’s see how it plays out.
