Wait for it…

It happens every year, coaches get fired, coaches change schools, coaches retire and then recruits reopen their commitments.

If Penn State sits tight and waits for the perfect situation, they could end up with a late flip in November or December.

Now, this is not something the staff should count on happening, because there’s a chance that a perfect situation does not arise, but it is an option.

Penn State lost one of its top defensive end targets in Mason Robinson to Northwestern earlier this year. Robinson picking Northwestern over Penn State was a shock to many, but maybe the Nittany Lions continue to push for a flip. It’s highly doubtful Robinson will just fall into their lap because Pat Fitzgerald may have the best job security in the country. Penn State would have to just outright flip Robinson.

Additionally, there’s the chance the staff finds a senior riser this Fall. Many high schoolers are known to have breakout senior seasons and then attract the attention of big-time programs as signing day nears. It could happen again for Penn State here.
