At long last, Penn State Basketball finally has a non-conference schedule!

We’ve had games trickle in throughout the summer, we now know the entirety of the non-conference schedule for the upcoming 2022-2023 season.  The non-conference slate is crucial for the determination of post-season play, in either the NIT or (gulp!) the NCAA Tournament.  Teams like Penn State want to find a balance of some strong games to build the resume but enough wins to keep the .500 record ‘requirement’ for the NIT alive.

Interesting games include November 17th in the opening round of the Charleston Classic with a very tricky opening round match-up vs Furman, who was the runner-up in the Southern Conference a year ago and is expected to perform well again this year.  It’s also easy to look ahead to the potential matchup with Virginia Tech the next day.

Other ‘tournament’ games include November 14th when the Butler Bulldogs come to town as part of the Gavitt Games.  Penn State also heads to Clemson on November 29th for their B1G/ACC Tournament game.

We knew UMass was coming to Happy Valley after the Minutemen destroyed the Nittany Lions a year ago (Trent Buttrick Revenge Game).   Canisius will also visit the Bryce Jordan Center for the ever-fun post-finals game on Sunday, December 18th.   Other teams visiting include *******

Back in June, Penn State basketball released their conference slate (without dates), playing at home only versus Indiana, Iowa, and Michigan State and road-only games versus Minnesota, Northwestern, and Ohio State.  The conference schedule will include home and home games against Illinois, Rutgers, Wisconsin, Maryland, Michigan, Nebraska, and Purdue.
