Penn State Football: Which freshman 5-star will make the biggest impact in 2022?
Drew Allar
Drew Allar may very well be the quarterback that finally gets Penn State football to the College Football Playoff, just not this year.
For 2022, Allar is competing with fellow true freshman Beau Pribula for the No. 3 quarterback spot. This will be a development year for both.
This may concern some fans that the 5-star isn’t starting or even QB2, but this really isn’t anything out of the ordinary.
If you look at some of the high-profile quarterbacks from around the nation over the past few years, you’ll see not many of them started as a true freshman. Justin Fields, CJ Stroud, Bryce Young, JJ McCarthy, Kyler Murray and Dwayne Haskins are just a few of the many highly ranked recruits who waited their turn in college.
Even if starter Sean Clifford was to struggle or get hurt, the first man off the bench will be sophomore Christian Veilleux. Allar could move the needle later in the year, but for now he’ll sit back and develop.
He may see some time in blow outs, which will be valuable experience for him.
