During day two of Big Ten Football media days on Wednesday, arguably the best wideout in college football had some high praise for Joey Porter Jr.

Ohio State’s Jaxon Smith-Njigba told reporters that he feels that Joey Porter Jr. is one of the best cornerbacks in the nation, and that he is looking forward to squaring off with him again this season.

With some mock drafts earlier this spring having Porter dubbed as a potential first rounder, and now this, expectations for the Nittany Lions’ cornerback are about as high as they could be.

Smith-Njigba is one of the most productive returning wideouts in college football, as he hauled in 95 receptions for over 1,600 yards and nine touchdowns in 2021.

Although interceptions totals can sometimes be misleading, Joey Porter Jr. had just one interception last year, but had four pass deflections and was a key piece for one of the best secondaries in school history.

He had a tendency to play a little too physical at times, often getting flagged for pass interference in the back half of the season, but I’d prefer a corner that is a little too aggressive than not aggressive enough. It seems like an easier correction that way.

As Smith-Njigba mentioned, Porter’s size, length, and athleticism will make him a nightmare for opposing receivers to line up against.

Both are all-conference performers, as well as potential All-Americans and first round picks, so watching Joey Porter Jr. and Jaxon Smith-Njigba go one-on-one on October 29th will be one of the most exciting “game within the game” matchups to watch all season across college football.
