Penn State football suffered a decommitment in the 2023 class with Yazeed Haynes leaving the class.

Yazeed Haynes announced to Rivals he would be decommitting from Penn State football on Monday.

The 3-star athlete has not been in Penn State’s class for long. Haynes received his Penn State offer on June 4, less than two weeks after he decommitted from Rutgers.

After an official visit to Penn State on June 10, Haynes committed to the Nittany Lions a couple days later.

That didn’t stop Georgia from poking around, as they offered Haynes in early July and had been in contact with him long before that. The Dawgs are now seen as the heavy favorites for Haynes.

Haynes was expected to play wide receiver for the Nittany Lions, so they now only have one in the 2023 class. That one is 4-star Ejani Shakir, a very talented player, but Penn State will need more.

Penn State will look to add a wide receiver or two now. Thankfully, there seems to be plenty of options out there for Penn State’s staff.

It is rare for a Pennsylvania recruit to decommit from Penn State. This is only the fourth in-state recruit to decommit from Penn State since 2018. One of the four, Micah Parsons, eventually committed back to Penn State.

Haynes is the fifth decommit in Penn State’s 2023 class. One of the five is Mathias Barnwell, who is back in Penn State’s class.

Haynes’ recruitment is awfully similar to Tyreese Fearbry’s last year. Fearbry committed to Penn State shortly after an official visit to Happy Valley, but decommitted less than a month later. Sometimes the ‘high’ after an official visit wears off and recruits realize they may have rushed their decision.

Haynes is now looking at possibly his third commitment in three months, while Penn State will go back to the drawing board at wide receiver.
