1. Aaron Brooks (Penn State)
2. Kaleb Romero (Ohio State)
3. John Poznanski (Rutgers)

This Big Ten group is going to be a similar story as the previous weight class.

Since setting foot on campus at University Park, Aaron Brooks has been a man on a mission. And if your metrics for measuring how close you are to getting to your mission are “wins” and “titles” then Brooks is well on his way.

Aaron is a staggering 50-2 in his Nittany Lion career with two Big Ten titles and two NCAA titles. And if his first collegiate loss to Nebraska’s Taylor Venz back on 1/24/20 was a bit of a fluke, his loss to Michigan’s Myles Amine in the finals of the 2022 Big Ten’s was not.

Amine proved himself to be Brooks’ most accomplished and difficult adversary of Aaron’s young Penn State career. But in the end, it was Aaron Brooks who got the win and the last laugh in the finals of the 2022 NCAA Championships. And unfortunately for fans of college wrestling, Myles Amine is out of eligibility.

Can Ohio State’s Kaleb Romero and Rutgers’ John Poznanski pick up the slack left behind by Amine’s departure? I just don’t see it.

Brooks’ is a combined 3-0 against Romero and Poznanski in his career with all three wins coming via major decisions.

It will be interesting to see if Illinois’ Zac Braunagel and Iowa’s Abe Assad are able to take that next step and possibly break through into the top three. Also, Minnesota’s Isaiah Salazar will be a name to look out for next year.

Aaron Brooks will be pushed next year; however it just won’t come from the Big Ten.
