Penn State Basketball head coach Micah Shrewsberry spoke to the media yesterday about a variety of topics, but none more important than these three key takeaways.

Myles Dread Injury Update

Myles Dread played through a shoulder injury, the majority of the season with a heavy wrap extending down his forearm and into his chest.  The thought is his shoulder injury likely affected his shooting (although he actually shot 6% higher from three in 2021 as opposed to 2020).  He underwent surgery in the offseason, while announcing his return for his fifth year (due to the extra year of eligibility awarded from the COVID-19 pandemic).

Yesterday, Shrewsberry stated he is doing non-contact drills and leading from the sidelines when he can’t.  “He’s shooting jumpers, he’s working out, so he’s back.  He’s just not doing any contact stuff, and that’s ok,” said Shrewsberry.

Dread will play a significant role on the 2022-2023 team, bringing back a world of experience.  While the team is still a bit smaller than in previous years, Dread will likely be asked yet again to guard some of the biggest Big Ten power forwards defensively.
