2. Pandemic dead period

As everyone knows by now, the pandemic really hurt recruiting in college football.

Nick Singleton, and every other recruit in the country, was not able to step foot inside a building on a college campus or meet in person with a coach for the rest of 2020. Zoom became the No. 1 means of communication between recruits and coaches.

Outside of receiving a few offers, not much changed in Singleton’s recruitment as 2020 moved along. Penn State, Ohio State and Notre Dame were still seen as the top choices.

Things began to open back up for recruiting when the calendar changed to 2021.

The competition became even stiffer when Alabama extended an offer to him in February of 2021. Singelton was quickly becoming a nationally coveted recruit, and visits were expected to open up soon.

According to 247 Sports, Singleton did make a stop in Happy Valley on April 23, 2021. That just happens to be the same date as Penn State’s spring practice, which was open to a limited amount of fans. While meeting with coaches was still not allowed at that time, if Singleton was there, it was notable.

This was certainly a promising sign heading into the June official visits.
