Opposing teams may find Penn State Basketball’s student section a bit louder this upcoming season.

Penn State Basketball announced a full re-seat of all season ticket seat locations for the 2022-2023 basketball season.

While few would ever claim the Bryce Jordan Center to be a difficult place to play, the administration is taking a big swing to try to change that moving forward.  In a surprise announcement this morning, the student section will move from across the benches to behind the benches and extending behind the basket when enough students show up.  This part is incredibly positive, as it will make for a cleaner look on television.  Putting students directly behind the visiting team players and staff could cause some issues, but we’ll cross that bridge when the time comes.

To facilitate this move, every single season ticket holder will need to pick a new seat location for the upcoming season.  Like football, the new seat locations will be decided on the amount of Nittany Lion Club points, which will cause issues when groups of people try to buy season tickets, as this Twittergame-day user pointed out:

This move came after the University asked for feedback from non-student season ticket holders and the response was rather unanimous about the lack of gameday atmosphere in the Bryce Jordan Center.  It’s a bit of a unique reaction to that feedback to require everyone to move their seats but here we are.  And to decide location based on points…at a sport where one doesn’t even earn points for buying tickets, is, well, interesting…

Hopefully this premium location upgrade for the students will allow for that increased presence we all solely desire in the BJC.  We shall see what churn this

may

will cause from the general population of season ticket holders.  Big changes are a coming, let’s see what happens next.
